Obesity Care

The landscape of caring for people with obesity is rapidly evolving with the new generation of effective medications and a shift in medical guidelines away from using BMI as the sole measure to dictate treatment. Focusing on more personalized, patient-centered obesity care means offering body composition analysis as part of a comprehensive approach.

See why you should Step Up to Obesity with seca

Comprehensive Care through Every Stage

Equip yourself with the best in class, sophisticated technology to navigate the complexities of obesity care by providing insights into adiposity and muscle mass that motivate adherence, strengthen commitment, and keep your patients engaged in their care.

seca stands apart as the only body composition analyzer that incorporates age, gender, and ethnicity into analyses, aligning with the American Medical Association’s updated policy guidelines. Our results are 97-98% accurate when compared to the gold standard reference metrics for muscle mass, fat mass, and total body water.

Prevention:

Establish a foundation for health by checking baseline body composition and monitoring trends. Incorporate body composition analysis into routine annual care to identify patterns early and adjust your care plans.

Treatment:

With highly effective medical and surgical treatments available to help your patients achieve significant weight loss, it is essential to prioritize the loss of fat mass over muscle mass. Along with powerful treatment tools, seca is your sophisticated measurement tool to ensure the best health outcomes.

Management:

Obesity is a chronic, relapsing condition that requires life-long support. As we move away from weight as the primary outcome, body composition analysis is a cornerstone of long-term follow up care, helping you and your patient monitor for changes and pivot when necessary.

Selected Parameters for Weight Management

BMI/Weight

Weight and BMI are important markers for screening patients for health risks or need for further assessment or intervention, and are often required to document for medical insurance and determination of weight management benefits.

Fat Mass Percentage

Fat mass percent is the proportion of fat mass making up body weight and is important as interventions target changes in body composition and reducing body fat. Body fat % may be required as an outcome metric by standards of care for weight management programs.

Visceral Adipose Tissue

Validated with whole-body MRI, VAT is an important parameter to estimate the unhealthy fat located around the abdominal organs which has an impact on metabolic health

Waist Circumference

Waist circumference is a tool to estimate central or abdominal adiposity and Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT), which targets for metabolic health improvement with weight management interventions.

Skeletal Muscle Mass

Focusing on preservation of skeletal muscle mass during weight loss and maintenance interventions is critical for long term health, as rapid weight loss can result in loss of an unfavorable ratio of muscle to fat. Early intervention with nutrition and strength training can combat the negative health consequences of loss of lean muscle mass.

Body Composition Chart

The body composition chart (BCC) combines fat mass and skeletal muscle mass in a coordinate system. Looking at the FM and SMM together allows people to visualize where they are and where they are working towards with an intervention with a goal of moving toward preserving or building lean mass while losing fat mass
